Toil to Stay Away from Oil
Application of oil to the scalp is an age old tradition.
Did you ever ponder, why should we externally apply oil when, our own body is capable of producing sebum (in common parlance, oil) to an essential amount?
In olden days, when the access to conditioners and serum were absent, oil served the purpose. It was meant to ease out the combing, remove tangles and to style and set the hair (In these times, this can again be taken care of by choosing our styling and/or grooming products accordingly)
Is there a scientific evidence that oil application can increase hair growth or reduce hair fall? – NO!
Can it cause more harm than good? – YES!
Using oil to the scalp actually worsens existing problems especially if you are:
- An individual with an oily / acne-prone skin
- Suffering from dandruff and related issues
- Resident of a place which is humid (this can cause more sweat, dirt and grime to settle on your scalp & hair, creating more problems)
So what can you do then?
- Wash your hair at regular intervals.
- Choose a gentle shampoo. Follow it up with an appropriate conditioner (wash off or leave in).
- Do not brush your hair frequently and when it is wet as this causes damage.
As the saying goes, ‘Good Hair Speaks Louder Than Words’, and we need to put in more of cleansing and conditioning and put out the (synthetic) oil to achieve that!
